University of Massachusetts Amherst - BS, Mathematics, Pure and Applied

I love teaching math, as it is a natural strength of mine, and I have always had the gift of helping share knowledge of this subject with others. I enjoy tutoring subject tests, including advanced placement tests, the ACT, the PSAT, and the SAT. Specific subjects I tutor include middle school math, trigonometry, and calculus 1. I provide students with strategies that will give them confidence when taking the exams. It is my observation that the biggest challenge students have is a lack of self-esteem. As a tutor, my philosophy is to encourage students and build confidence first, and teach the material second. I act as a guide, helping students find their way so they know they already have all the tools they need within themselves. I reassure students that if they are doing their best, there is no need to fear as academic success will naturally follow. I have been a tutor since 2008; my students vary in grade from k-college. I received bachelor's degrees in both applied mathematics and pure mathematics at the University of Massachusetts. In my free time I enjoy playing the guitar, traveling abroad, running, and swimming.
