Education

I graduated from SUNY Purchase in 2006 with a B.A. in Art History and a 3.7 GPA. I received my Master's in Childhood and Special Education (MPS) from Manhattanville College in 2010. My graduate school GPA was 4.0. While in college and graduate school, I worked as a peer tutor, swim instructor, and long-term substitute teacher, gaining invaluable experience as an educator in a variety of settings with diverse students of all ages.

Experience

I am a patient and dynamic educator with 15+ years of experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages. I am a New York State dually certified teacher with a strong liberal arts background and am well-versed in many subject areas. As a passionate lifelong learner myself, I strive to make learning fun, engaging, and practical for all students! While I don't consider it particularly relevant to my current work, I scored a 750 on the (then) verbal section of my SAT's and received 5's on AP US History and AP Art History exams. On my New York State teacher certification exams, I scored between 260 and 298 (out of 300) on four different tests. I taught in Westchester County public schools for 4 years and found that many students' needs were not being adequately met in the classroom. The typical classroom environment was often unable to accommodate all students' abilities and learning styles, so I started a tutoring and coaching service that focuses on meeting the diverse needs and goals of 21st century students and families. The two sets of skills that I consider essential for students' future success are critical thinking and problem solving. Therefore I promote, model, and teach these important skill sets so that students are equipped with high-order thinking skills in order to solve nuanced and complex problems. In additon to traditional tutoring and academic advising and coaching services, I also help adult and graduate students complete and revise research papers, including several that have gone on to publication in professional or scholarly journals. My writing meets the very highest academic and professional standards, and I can help adult students and researchers get their work written, revised, and proofed in a stress-free and efficient manner. All students have different needs, abilities, and goals; as such, I tailor each learning plan and session accordingly. My background as a special educator allows me to differentiate lessons and come up with the most useful learning strategies for each individual. I have experience working with students from age 6 to well-seasoned adult professionals who need to hone new or out of practice skills, so please don't hesitate to inquire!
